First game of the season approaching quickly, are you going ? I wish the club pushed it a little bit more, would be nice to get 200+ there opening day.

Some insight into how Scunthorpe have done in preseason.

The departure of Callum Roberts and Oli Ewing took away a big chunk of creativity, goals, and tactical composure from Scunthorpe, but they've attempted to solve that.

NOTABLE OUTS

Callum Roberts & Oli Ewing: Roberts joined Notts County on a free, and Ewing signed for FGR. Ewing’s engine room presence (49 appearances) and Robert's goalscoring ability were central to the team's identity. Losing both is a big loss for the side that reached the playoffs last season.

Zain Westbrooke: Westbrooke was on loan there last season but now brings his EFL pedigree to our midfield. His vision, set piece delivery, and progressive passing give us a natural tempo dictator.

NOTABLE INS

Jordan Richards: A relentless box-to-box midfielder and former Boston United Player of the Season. Richards brings tactical versatility (capable of slotting in at right-back or central midfield) and serious defensive steel to offset Ewing’s departure.

Kyle Hurst: The winger returns to provide a pacey direct threat out wide, replacing the attacking spark lost when Roberts moved on. He featured over 100 times for Doncaster in League 2, but the step up to League 1 didn't provide him the same opportunities and a loan spell at Scunthorpe, turned into a permanent move in the summer.

Luke Brennan: Signed on a 3 year deal after scoring 25 goals across a standout 75 game spell at Buxton in the National League North. Brennan provides versatility as an attacking midfielder or right winger, and the ability to contribute a goal.

Jacob Butterfield: Not listed in the graphic above - 36 year old veteran central midfielder, signed from Gatehead as a player-coach. He had a successful spell at Scunthorpe in the National League North before moving to Gateshead for 2 seasons. A player who spent most of his career in the Championship, making 300 appearances across Barnsley, Derby County, Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, and most recently Luton. Certainly an experienced addition, played 28 times for Gateshead in the National League last year, and played the 2nd highest amount of minutes in preseason behind Kyle Hurst, so there's life in those legs yet.

How do you think we'll line up against Scunthorpe? Particuarly with Lennon, Jones, Obeng, and Daly. Do you think Daly will get the start ahead of Obeng because it's Scunthorpe Away? Jones feels like one of the first names on the teamsheet.

admin god knows - macca jones 10s and Davies and Daly wing backs would be my guess right now.. No idea where Lennon fits in but obeng has probably played the most minutes pre season out of all the wide players. So could be anything, either way I’m not sure I’m too worried who does or doesn’t start all are capable I think

GoalHanger can’t quite work out the formation there might be a format issue.

I think you might be right player wise with Davies and Daly as the wing backs. Unless ayina is injured I think he’ll be playing rcb. I can see Mukena missing out as he was the one struggling with fitness.. also I’m not sure they’ll have Gould on the bench.

GoalHanger What formation? If Muller is in CDM, I don't think Rowley starts him over McGavin. Other than that, Ayina in for Mukena and probably Kingdon in for Gould. I think Gould and Mukena might miss out. 1 player coach, 1 not fully fit?

Yes, I had formatting issues when posting.

Formation out of possession 433 with Muller CDM, or even 442. Various formations in possesion going forward.

I put McGavin on the bench because I'm not sure of having both him and Westbrooke playing side by side. Two good players but they both have similar styles with McGavin being good at set pieces.
