Gateshead started pretty poorly against a weak Eastleigh side. There was low expectations going into the game but a general hope that the opposition would be as poor as we were in pre season. We really struggled to create clear cut chances due to the lack of a real creative threat in the team.
Coming into the woking game, the general feeling seemed very pessimistic. Despite this, I had faith in our manager Cattermole. He played at an elite level in the hardest position in football, he knows what it takes to win games. This was displayed perfectly in the Heed’s first home game where a lacklustre first half was turned around by a brilliant formation change and a half time substitute that flipped the game on its head.
The Heed were the much better team in the second half and comfortably won the game in the end. Now the first goal was something you would see in a u8’s sunday league match, but however you see it, the ball went in the net.
The second goal came from quick thinking as Josh Home, a player that has developed massively since re joining the club, received a pass from a short corner and lobbed the ball to the back stick for a great header.
Lee Cattermole is going to be a good manager for Gateshead, it’s all about wether then club can do what they need in order to support him.
